19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hardcourt
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.
Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a challenging year, managing just one match at the big events and undergoing a setback at the US Open.
The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in particular - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-term mentor Cervara.
Now training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's initial trophy following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt since that period of 2023.
Victory also means he has secured 21 titles at 21 various events.
"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my children simultaneously, so to secure a championship is particularly special," said world number 14 Medvedev.
"This title is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."
The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his past six title deciders, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.
His counter-punching strategy and recurring reactions on the playing surface had led some to doubt if his skill to perform at the top level was concluded.
But the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play assertively, backed up by an enhanced serve.
Medvedev fought back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the last five games to go ahead.
The competitors swapped breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his initial ATP Tour victory, took control to force a decider.
He saved 4 initial chances in a competitive third set before the champion won the break to fifteen to secure the win.
Appropriately, he earned the title with a shot at the net area, with Moutet unable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
